Ecommerce website development for a UAE trading business is not the same job as building a fashion store. Your buyers are contractors, print shops, workshops and other companies. They order by specification and quantity, they expect a tax invoice with your TRN on it, and they will not create an account to find out a price. We build online stores for exactly this kind of business - aluminium profiles and fittings, printing equipment and consumables, machinery spares, packaging and cleaning supplies - on Shopify, WooCommerce and custom stacks, from the Dubai side of the market.
If you sell physical products to other businesses in the UAE and your current site is a PDF catalogue plus a WhatsApp number, this page is written for you. It is also the page to send us when you ask for an ecommerce website development quote, because it sets out what we will ask you. It covers what a working store needs, how we choose the platform, the UAE-specific layer most agencies miss, and what decides your quote.
What ecommerce website development means for a UAE trading business
For a trader or wholesaler, ecommerce website development means building a product catalogue that buyers can search by specification, a way to order that matches how trade customers actually buy, and a back office your team can run without calling a developer. The storefront design matters, but it is the third priority. When the product data is wrong, no theme saves the store.

Here is the pattern we see in almost every enquiry from this sector. The business has a few hundred to a few thousand SKUs. Some are simple (a box of toner, a roll of tape). Others come in variants that matter enormously to the buyer and mean nothing to a generic theme: profile length, alloy, finish, thread pitch, compatible machine model. The owner has been quoting from a spreadsheet and an Excel price list for years. Every enquiry means a phone call to check stock, a manual quote, a bank transfer and a follow-up.
Good ecommerce website development replaces that loop, not the salesperson. The site answers the questions that eat your team's day (do you have it, what does it cost at my volume, when can I collect from Al Quoz), and your people handle the conversations that need a human: project pricing, credit terms, custom cuts.
That means the first two weeks of any build we run are spent on the catalogue, not on colours. We map your product attributes, decide which ones become filters, define how variants and units of measure work (per piece, per metre, per carton), and agree the pricing rules. Only then do we design pages around that data.
Retail cart or B2B ordering: what wholesale buyers need from your store
A retail cart assumes one price, one buyer type and payment in full at checkout. Wholesale buyers in the UAE break all three assumptions, most ecommerce website development in this market ignores that, and this is the single biggest reason trading companies launch an online store and then watch orders keep arriving by WhatsApp instead.
What a B2B ecommerce website needs that a retail template does not:
- Tiered and account-specific pricing. A walk-in customer, a registered contractor and your top ten accounts should not see the same number. Price lists by customer group, quantity breaks and login-to-see-trade-price are standard in our builds.
- Quote request alongside checkout. Some orders are card-and-go. Others are a 40-line bill of quantities for a villa project. Buyers need both routes on the same product page: add to cart, or add to a quote list and send it to your sales desk with one click. The quote lands in your inbox or CRM as structured data, not a screenshot.
- Minimum order quantities and pack sizes. Selling by the carton, the bundle or the 6-metre length must be enforced at product level so your warehouse never receives an order for 7 pieces of something you sell in tens.
- Business accounts. Company name, TRN, delivery addresses per site, multiple users under one account, order history and reorder-in-one-click. For a contractor who buys the same fittings every month, reorder is the feature that keeps them.
- Stock visibility that is honest. Show in stock, low stock or lead time by SKU, fed from your inventory system where one exists. Nothing burns trust faster than a confirmed order followed by a call to say it is not available.
- Downloadable spec sheets and certificates. Data sheets, conformity certificates and installation guides attached to the product, indexed by search engines, so the buyer never has to ask.
None of this is exotic. All of it is missing from the average template store, which is why a trading company's site so often looks finished and behaves like a brochure.
Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom build: how we choose for trading companies
We build on all three and we do not have a favourite. The platform follows the catalogue and the integrations, and we recommend one after the first scoping call, in writing, with the reasons.
| Shopify | WooCommerce | Custom (Laravel / Next.js) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best fit | Simpler catalogues, fast launch, retail plus light trade | Large catalogues with complex attributes, content-heavy sites, tight budget control | Bespoke pricing engines, configurators, deep ERP or inventory integration |
| B2B pricing | Possible with apps or Shopify Plus; costs add up | Strong with the right extensions; fully controllable | Anything you can specify |
| Hosting and maintenance | Included; you rent it | Your hosting; needs updates and backups managed | Your infrastructure; needs a team behind it |
| Ownership | Platform-dependent | You own the code and data | You own everything |
| When we say no | Catalogues with many technical attributes and per-customer price lists | Owners who will not budget for maintenance | Businesses that need to launch in six weeks |
A rough rule: a printing supplies trader with 400 SKUs, standard pricing and card payments is well served by Shopify or WooCommerce. An aluminium systems supplier who needs cut-to-length pricing, per-project quotes and a link to a production system is a WooCommerce-with-custom-code or a custom build. A marketplace where several sellers list and buyers bid is always custom.
For a fuller comparison of the first two options in this market, our sister site covers Shopify vs a custom ecommerce build for UAE stores. Whatever the platform, we deliver the same things: clean, documented code or configuration, a staging environment, and a handover session so your team can add products and run promotions without us.
Payments, VAT and delivery: the UAE layer of an ecommerce build
This is the section a template or an overseas developer gets wrong, and it is where a Dubai-based ecommerce website development team earns its fee. An online store that works in Europe is not automatically a store that works in the UAE.
- AED payment gateways. Buyers pay in dirhams, on local cards, through a gateway your bank recognises. We integrate the gateways that actually operate here - Telr, PayTabs, Network International, Checkout.com and Stripe among them - and set up the ones your business already banks with rather than forcing a switch. Buy-now-pay-later (Tabby, Tamara) suits retail lines more than trade accounts; we add it where it fits.
- Cash on delivery and bank transfer. Trade buyers still pay a large share of orders by transfer against an invoice, or COD on local delivery. The store has to support these as first-class options with the right order states, not hide them.
- VAT-compliant tax invoices. Every order needs a tax invoice that shows your TRN, the 5% VAT line and the customer's TRN where they have one. We generate these automatically and make them downloadable from the account area, which removes a daily chore from your accounts team.
- Arabic and right-to-left. A translated menu is not an Arabic store. Where your buyers need it, we design the RTL layout properly - spacing, forms, product tables - rather than flipping a stylesheet.
- Delivery by emirate and collection. Shipping rules by emirate, free-delivery thresholds by customer group, collection from your Al Quoz or Sharjah warehouse with a pickup slot, and courier integration where you use one. For heavy goods, a "request delivery quote" step often beats a flat rate.
- Licensing. Your trade licence needs to cover online sales for the activity you are selling. That is a conversation with your licensing authority, not with us, but we will flag it early because gateways ask for it during onboarding.
Want a fixed quote for your store? Send us your product list (a spreadsheet is fine) and a note on how your customers buy today. We will come back with a platform recommendation and a scoped price. Request a quote → or message us on WhatsApp.
What we build into every ecommerce website
Whatever the platform, a GoDesign store ships with the same core. This is the checklist we work to, and the one you should hold any ecommerce website development company to.
- Catalogue architecture - categories, attributes, filters and variants designed around how your buyers search, agreed before design starts.
- Product pages built for specification buyers - technical tables, downloadable data sheets, compatible-with and frequently-bought-together logic, clear stock and lead time.
- Two ways to order - secure card checkout, and a quote list that reaches your sales desk as a structured request.
- Business account area - trade pricing on login, multiple delivery addresses, order history, one-click reorder, tax invoices.
- A back office your team can use - add products, import price updates in bulk, run promotions, manage orders and print packing slips from a phone or a desk.
- Order and payment notifications - confirmation, dispatch and invoice emails, with WhatsApp order updates where it makes sense (see what the WhatsApp Business API costs in the UAE before assuming it is expensive).
- SEO from day one - clean URLs, product and organisation schema, category pages written to rank for what your buyers search, Core Web Vitals tested on mobile. Our SEO team works alongside the build rather than after it.
- Analytics and conversion tracking - Google Analytics and Tag Manager wired to checkout and quote events so you can see where buyers drop.
- Staging, backups and a rollback plan - nothing goes live on your real store without being tested on a copy first.
- Handover and documentation - a recorded training session and a written guide, so you are not dependent on us for routine changes.

That staging discipline is not a nice-to-have. When we rebuilt the WooCommerce storefront for Frankfurter Kaffeerösterei, a specialty roaster with an existing customer base, the whole redesign - custom Figma-led theme, advanced filtering and search, custom fields for dynamic content, tailored order emails - was built and tested on a server-based staging environment so that not a single existing customer record was put at risk during the switchover. A trading company with five years of account history needs the same care, and most quotes you receive will not mention it.

Already have an online store that is not selling?
Not every ecommerce website development enquiry is a new build. A good share come from businesses that already have a Shopify or WooCommerce store and something is wrong with it: the Instagram shop integration broke and nobody can work out why, the theme was customised by someone who has since disappeared, checkout fails on certain cards, or the store simply looks dated next to competitors and the owner wants it redesigned without losing the products and orders already in it.
We take these on. The process is a paid audit first - we go through the store, the integrations, the analytics and the code, and give you a written list of what is broken, what is costing sales and what we would change, in priority order. From there you can have us fix the urgent items only, or redesign the store on the same platform with your data intact. Sometimes the honest answer after an audit is that the platform was the wrong choice for your catalogue, and we say so before you spend more on it.
If you are scoping integrations - marketplaces, dropship suppliers, inventory sync - read our piece on the ecommerce integration mistakes UAE stores keep making before you brief anyone, including us.
What decides the quote
We do not publish a price list for ecommerce website development, because two stores with the same page count can differ by a factor of five in the work involved. What we do is scope precisely and quote a fixed price, so you know the number before we start. The variables that move it most:
- Catalogue size and complexity - 200 simple SKUs versus 5,000 with technical attributes, variants and units of measure. The data migration alone can be the largest single line.
- Pricing logic - one price for everyone, or customer groups, quantity breaks, contract pricing and quotes.
- Integrations - payment gateway only, or also your inventory or ERP, accounting software, courier, CRM and marketplaces. Each two-way sync is its own piece of engineering.
- Languages - English only, or English and Arabic with a proper RTL layout.
- Existing data - a clean start, or a migration from an old store with customer accounts and order history that must survive.
- Design scope - a well-configured premium theme, or a fully custom design from Figma.
Tell us where you sit on each of these and we can usually give a reliable range on the first call and a fixed quote within a few days. Our ecommerce solutions and web development service pages show the broader capability, and our ecommerce industry page covers retail and DTC brands specifically.
Ready to turn your catalogue into an order channel?
You have the products, the customers and the reputation. What is missing is a store that lets a contractor in Ajman check stock, see his trade price and place the order at 11pm without calling anyone. That is what ecommerce website development from GoDesign delivers.

Frequently asked questions
How long does ecommerce website development take for a trading company? For a store on Shopify or WooCommerce with a few hundred products and standard pricing, a realistic build is six to ten weeks from signed scope to launch, with product data preparation on your side usually the item that stretches it. B2B builds with customer-group pricing, quote workflows and inventory integration run longer, and custom platforms longer again. We fix the timeline in the scope document, not in a sales call.
Can my sales team still handle large orders by quote if we have an online store? Yes, and for most traders they should. We build a quote list alongside the cart so a buyer can send a 40-line request from the product pages, and it arrives with your sales desk as structured data they can price, adjust and convert to an order. The store handles the repeat and small-ticket orders; your people handle the projects.
Do I need Shopify or WooCommerce, or something custom? It depends on your catalogue and integrations, not on preference. Simple catalogues with standard pricing suit Shopify or WooCommerce ecommerce website development. Large technical catalogues with per-customer pricing usually land on WooCommerce with custom development. Configurators, bidding or marketplace features, and deep ERP integration usually mean a custom build. We recommend one in writing after the first scoping call.
Will the store handle UAE VAT and tax invoices? Yes. Every order generates a VAT-compliant tax invoice showing your TRN, the 5% VAT line and the customer's TRN where provided, downloadable from their account and emailed automatically. Bank transfer and cash on delivery are supported as proper payment methods with their own order states, alongside card payments through a UAE gateway.
Can you fix or redesign our existing Shopify or WooCommerce store instead of rebuilding it? Usually, yes. We start with a paid audit of the store, its integrations and its analytics, and give you a prioritised written list of what is broken and what is costing sales. From there you choose targeted fixes or a redesign on the same platform with your products, customers and orders kept intact. If the platform genuinely does not fit your catalogue, we tell you that before you spend more on it.
